The artwork

Companion piece to Green Woman, a harpy was originally a mythological creature, a wind spirit, a hybrid of a bird’s body with a woman’s face. It became associated with meanness later, and appears in Shakespeare as the embodiment of a nasty woman. My painting the Harpy is intended to encourage reflection on the place of women in society.

The artist Sarah KNILL-JONES

Raised in Scotland Sarah Knill-Jones studied at the Glasgow School of Art and obtained her Master in Fine Art from the University of the Arts London. Her practice incorporates drawing, video, performance and collaborative experiments, but the core remains centred in, on and around paint, as a visceral, human response to the world we live in.
