"Shou Sugi Ban – ancient Japanese technique of burning the wood surface in order to preserve it. What I find interesting while using this technique is that after successive burnings, the blackened surface becomes almost luminous, by reflecting the light the black becomes light, a shifting of perception that is almost magical and deeply spiritual."

Sculptrice sur bois d’origine roumaine, Andreea Zahiu vit et travaille désormais en Bretagne où elle possède un atelier. C’est à Oxford en Angleterre, où elle a vécu pendant près de 12 ans, qu’elle s’initie avec passion au travail du bois. Elle sculpture et aborde avec patience ce matériau naturel qu’elle aime à considérer avec un vécu et une histoire propre. Elle entre ainsi dans un dialogue intime avec chaque essence pour créer des oeuvres à la fois puissantes et intimes.
